Vita

Dora Kaprálová (b. 1975, Brno) moved from her hometown to Berlin in 2008, where she now lives and works as a freelance writer and publicist. In her books, as well as her work for radio, she tries to explore the world in which reality moves towards something fundamental, humanizing it: the intimacy of communication and the poetry of everydayness. D.K. studied film and theater dramaturgy in the Czech Republic. She is the author of awarded novels, short stories, reportages, plays, documentary radio plays, and children's books. She often experiments with literary genres; four books from her extensive oeuvre have been translated into German to date.
Her latest works in Czech include the story collection "Utrpení a jiné žánry" (2022) and the horror book for children "Mr. Nobody and the White Darkness" (2022), currently nominated for the best Czech children's book Zlatá stuha.
After the successful publication of "Mr. Nobody and the White Darkness," which was adapted, among other things, as a radio play for Czech Radio in April 2023 and as a play at the Polarka Theater in Brno (planned for 2024), she is writing again for young children (young) readers, this time a novel for young adults.
In German, her book will be presented at the Saarbrücken Children's Book Festival in October in a staged reading by the author, with animations by filmmaker Natasa von Kopp.
In November 2023, the Husa na Provázku Theater in Brno will present a theatrical performance based on texts from four prose books by Dora Kapralová.
Her texts have been translated into German, English, Polish, Hungarian, Serbian, Croatian and Bulgarian.
She lives in Berlin with her two daughters.
