Vita

Urška Brodar (1983) is a dramaturge and translator from Slovenia. Between 2011 and 2016 she lived and worked between Ljubljana and Berlin. Since March 2017 she is working as a dramaturge at the Mladinsko Theatre in Ljubljana. As a freelance dramaturge she worked in the Slovenian fringe theatre scene (for example with Theater Glej) as well as with national theatres, such as National Theatre Celje. In 2016, she did a residency at the Theater Glej in Ljubljana, where the piece “A Potential Performance” was developed in cooperation with Ballhaus Ost Berlin. As a translator with the language combination German-English-Slovenian she first and foremost translates theatre plays. Among her translations are Roland Schimmelpfennig's Vorher/Nachher, Wintersonnenwende, Katja Hensel's Kopf oder Zahl, Wolfram Lotz's Einige Nachrichten an das All, Die lächerliche Finsternis, Bertolt Brecht's Die Mutter, Der gute Mensch von Sezuan, Tankred Dorst's Merlin oder Das wüste Land, as well as works of poetry and prose, for example Reinhard Kleist's graphic novel about Johnny Cash, Cash I See A Darkness, and Thomas Bernhard's short story Österreichischer Staatspreis für Literatur. Between 2011 and 2016 she worked as an editor at the oldest fringe theatre in Slovenia, Theater Glej in Ljubljana. She continues to publish articles on contemporary theatre in the theatre journal Maska. In 2014 she was invited to the International Forum at the Berliner Theatertreffen.
