Mit »Zeit für Gaza« hat das Literaturhaus Berlin eine lose Veranstaltungsreihe gestartet, die sich der komplexen, oft unsichtbaren Realität in Gaza widmet und Literatur als Mittel der Erinnerung, des Widerstands und der Selbstbestimmung in den Vordergrund stellt. An diesem Abend steht die internationale Perspektive palästinensischer Autor:innen auf die anhaltende Nakba im Mittelpunkt. Nakba, arabisch für »Katastrophe« oder »Unglück« bezeichnet ursprünglich die Vertreibung und Flucht arabischer Palästinenser:innen während des Krieges 1947–1949. Wie viele Schriftsteller:innen in ihren Werken zum Ausdruck bringen, wird darunter heute oftmals ein fortdauernder Prozess der Enteignung und Zerstörung des palästinensischen Lebens verstanden.
Die ägyptische Autorin und Übersetzerin Wiam El-Tamami führt durch den Abend und wird mit der Schriftstellerin Alaa Alqaisi über das Schreiben unter extremen Bedingungen sprechen. Somaia Abu Nada wird Gedichte zum Gedenken an ihre ermordete Schwester, die Dichterin Heba Abu Nada vortragen. Die palästinensische Schauspielerin Lamis Ammar liest Texte von Haneen Amin, Haidar al-Ghazali, Sara Abou Ghazal, Sarah Aziza, Muhammad al-Zaqzouq und Samer Abu Hawwash auf Arabisch, Deutsch und Englisch. Der Abend wird von der Übersetzerin Katharine Halls und der Schriftstellerin und Übersetzerin Alaa Alqaisi kuratiert.

»Zeit für Gaza« (Time for Gaza), is a loose series of events at Literaturhaus Berlin dedicated to the complex, often invisible reality of Gaza, highlighting literature as a tool of remembrance, resistance and self-determination. This evening will focus on Palestinian authors‘ international perspective on the ongoing Nakba. Nakba, meaning »catastrophe« in Arabic, was the term originally given in popular parlance to the expulsion and flight of Arab Palestinians in 1947–1949. As many writers express in their work, it is now often understood to be a continuing process of dispossession and destruction of Palestinian life.
Egyptian author and translator Wiam El-Tamami will host the evening and speak to writer Alaa Alqaisi about writing under extreme conditions. Somaia Abu Nada will read poems in memory of her murdered sister, the poet Heba Abu Nada. Palestinian actress Lamis Ammar reads texts by Haneen Amin, Haidar al-Ghazali, Sara Abou Ghazal, Sarah Aziza, Muhammad al-Zaqzouq and Samer Abu Hawwash in Arabic, German and English. The evening is curated by translator Katharine Halls and writer and translator Alaa Alqaisi.
