Vita

Sînziana Păltineanu is an experimental fiction writer and historian based in Berlin and working at the crossings of fiction- and history writing, queer feminism and librarianship. As an exophonic writer, Sînziana seeks to craft a deviant use of the English language. The predominant themes of their work have been queer feminism and writing from within and against constructs of nationalism. Sînziana is currently at work on a short story cycle.


Sînziana holds a Ph.D. in the Comparative History of Central, Southeastern and Eastern Europe from the Central European University. Among other awards and fellowships, Sînziana was a Reese Miller Scholar and Telluride Association Member at Cornell University (Ithaca/USA), a BAYHOST Fellow at the University of Regensburg (DE) and a Fellow for Literature at Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart/DE).

A one-way ticket and a loose plan.

What do you love about Berlin?

Its skin, tentacles and green spots.

What do you miss in Berlin?

Silence.

What is your favorite spot in Berlin?

I truly enjoy the Neukölln stretches from the canal to the Tempelhofer Feld.

Would you say you are a different person in Berlin? A different translator? And if yes, in what way?

Yes. Being situated in Berlin translates into the languages I speak daily and shapes at times the topics I approach in my writings.

Which existing literary work do you wish you had written?

One of Etel Adnan’s leporellos.
